Home from Hospital - Supporting your recovery

When you need more support than usual after returning home following a hospital stay, our volunteers can help you to get back on your feet and feel confident to remain independent. Our volunteers can provide support for a period of up to 12 weeks which will vary according to individual needs. Such needs may include practical help like accompanied shopping, making new connections with the local community or IT guidance and can also provide one to one or group exercise to improve functional muscle strength and balance or just someone to talk to. Our volunteers carry out Safe and Well checks each time that they visit.

One to One Support services

This service is designed to build confidence, reduce isolation and help reconnect you with the things that make life worth living, so you can stay independent for longer.

How do the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) work?

Depending on volunteer availability, the service is available wherever you live in Perth and Kinross. When you make contact with RVS a few basic details will be taken and later a referral completed. You can refer yourself, a family member can make a referral on your behalf as can a friend or a keyworker. After the initial contact a member of the RVS Royal Voluntary Service team will visit you at home at a mutually convenient time to discuss your needs, expectations and planned outcomes. Of course a family member or friend can be there too.

How much does it cost?

The home-based services are free of charge to you and supported by Perth and Kinross Council.  The exception to this is if you are taken shopping or to an activity group in a volunteer's car, then a basic charge of £4.20 for the first 3 miles and 65pence per mile thereafter is charged by invoice monthly.
