How are building standards performing?

Providing a quick response to Building Warrant applications is a key requirement for our customers but overall performance is set within a wider context.

How is our performance measured?

To provide a consistent measure of performance of verifiers across Scotland a Performance Framework (PF) was introduced jointly by the Scottish Government and Local Authority Building Standards Scotland (LABSS).

The Scottish Government subsequently reviewed the PF and the current key performance outcome has 7 Key Performance Outcomes.

Quarterly performance reports

It is a requirement of the PF that we submit a quarterly report detailing our performance against the key outcomes. A summary of our results are included in the building standards performance report below.

Customer Charter

A further requirement of the PF is that we publish our customer charter (PDF) [202KB]

Customer feedback

Feedback from customers is very important to us so we can gauge how well we are meeting your needs. Please feel free at any time to email BuildingStandards@pkc.gov.uk if you have any comments on the service we provide.

As some of you may know a detailed survey of customer satisfaction is run annually by the Scottish Government. The  customer satisfaction survey report 2021 (PDF) [366KB]  summarises the findings and compares our performance against the Scottish average.

Best value and continuous improvement

To maintain Verifier status, we must adhere to both a Performance Framework and an Operational Framework which is set nationally by the Scottish Government.

It is a commitment of the Performance Framework that we publish our verification annual report (PDF) [2MB] which includes:

  • the role of Building Standards
  • how we contribute to the Council's strategic objectives
  • performance framework targets
  • how we are performing
  • how we are continually improving service delivery to meet customer needs
