There are some paths which are ideally suited for those who are less able to cross rough ground. The paths featured here are especially suitable for those in wheelchairs, those with young children either in prams or who are learning to walk or cycle, and anyone who is unsure of their footing.
Loon Braes Rattray
Loon Braes is managed by the Loon Braes Parknership, who have recently carried out many improvements to the site including path upgrades, wildflower planting, erection of bird and bat boxes, creation of a hibernaculum and bank stabilisation. Loon Braes is the 'wilder side' of Davie Park in Rattray with lots of good habitats for wildlife including woodland and a large pond.
Wildlife which can be spotted in the park include red squirrels, song thrushes, spotted flycatchers, mute swans, frogs and a rare freshwater sponge!
Path information
Davie Park is accessed off Ashgrove Road and there is a car-park by the pavilion. A path leads past the children's playpark to the Loon Braes and the former boating pond. The path is tarmac, level, wide and reasonably smooth. Steeper paths with steps lead up through woodland on the left hand side to Braes Road.
Just before the pond there is an orchard, planted by volunteers in 2014. Works to the pond were undertaken around the same time with native planting along the north bank where there used to be bare grass and mud. The path continues beyond the pond but rises steeply to Krikton road. Return the same way you came.
