Wellbeing

The concept of wellbeing is central to the Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) approach.

The National Practice Model

Every practitioner should draw on the GIRFEC National Practice Model when assessment, planning and action are needed.

  • GIRFEC National Practice Model
    • Improving outcomes using the Wellbeing Indicators (SHANARRI)
    • Gathering information with the My World Triangle
    • Analysing information with the Resilience Matrix

Named Person

Children and young people from birth to 18, or beyond if still in school, have access to a Named Person to help support their wellbeing as part of the GIRFEC approach.

Lead professional

Some children and young people will have a Lead Professional to co-ordinate the plan that has been decided will help and support the child.

Child's plan

child's plan is a single planning framework that provides a consistent approach to planning, delivery and co-ordinate support.

Information sharing

Appropriate sharing of relevant information is a vital part of the early intervention approach that is at the heart of GIRFEC.

Chronologies

Child protection

GIRFEC does not replace child protection procedures. If you have a child protection concern for a child, you must follow your service/agency child protection guidance.

Training opportunities

GIRFEC and child protection training opportunities can be found on the ECS Learning Hub.
