Update on new secondary school project

Pupils who will be part of the intake to Perth's first additional new secondary school for some considerable time will now enter the school in August 2019 members of the Lifelong Learning Committee were advised today (26 August 2015).

The new date reflects a decision to re-phase the new secondary school project. Replacements for Kinross Primary and Tulloch Primary schools, which were originally due to be delivered alongside the new secondary, are unaffected and remain on course to open in December 2017.

The decision to re-phase the project to allow the secondary school to open in 2019 was taken due to a number of factors outwith the Council's control. These factors have reduced the flexibility built into the project should any further delays emerge.

Councillor Ian Miller, Leader of the Administration for Perth & Kinross Council, said: "This decision means that we remain on course to deliver three quality school buildings to meet the needs of pupils, parents and school staff in these areas for years to come. Re-phasing the project is based on sound project management principles to ensure delivery timescales remain realistic."

Councillor Bob Band, Convener of the Council's Lifelong Learning Committee, said: "I would like to thank all parents who participated in the recent consultation on the new secondary school, and reassure you that your feedback remains valid and has been invaluable in influencing the final proposals for the new school.

"The change in date does mean that it is a different group of pupils who will be the first students in the new school, and officers will be going back out to engage with those parents who will now be directly affected by the change to the project. A report on the outcome of this engagement and the consultation will then come back to the Lifelong Learning Committee in November 2015 for consideration."

More information will be available on this website in due course.
