The SHINE Outreach Team has been developed as part of Perth and Kinross Council's innovative and exciting transformation project to further enhance the service provision and support provided to children and young people who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or other complex or additional support needs. The team's ethos is to empower and enable parents/carers and support children and young people to be independent and reach their full potential. This initiative will further strengthen the current community-based supports to children, young people and families. The focus of the team will be to provide families and other professionals with support, strategies and skills to support positive change. This will involve direct work with the children and young people, families and other important people on specific pre agreed outcomes. The earlier intervention can be offered the better outcomes for the child/young person and their families can be achieved.
Criteria
The team will work primarily with children and young people aged between 0-18yrs who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or are awaiting an assessment from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Anyone can make a referral to the service through the referral process. However, consent must have been given by the parent/carer prior to the referral being made.
