The Council recognises that paying for approved childcare can be very expensive for working parents. Tax-free Childcare is a government scheme introduced in 2017. Eligible parents can open a childcare account which is topped up by the government to cover 20% of childcare costs.
With effect from 4th October 2018, the Childcare Voucher Scheme is no longer open to new entrants.
The Government have introduced a Tax Free Childcare scheme which is an alternate option for parents. The scheme is open to all parents of children under 12 (or under 17 if disabled). The scheme pays 20% of childcare costs up to a maximum of £2000 each year. Employees can check what childcare savings they could make based on their personal circumstances using the government's online childcare calculator.
Existing childcare voucher recipients' will continue receiving vouchers after the aforementioned date as long as they joined the scheme and received their first voucher before October 2018.
Employees cannot use both childcare vouchers and Tax-free Childcare. If you choose to leave childcare vouchers and join Tax-free Childcare, you must email employmentandpayroll@pkc.gov.uk within 90 days of starting Tax-free Childcare so the relevant adjustments can be made to your salary.
