Details

Purpose

This short briefing is to inform you about Council preparations for Storm Bert.

Briefing Information

You will be aware that the named storm, Storm Bert, is predicted to have an impact on Perth and Kinross over the weekend.

An Amber weather alert for snow and ice is in place for areas of northern and western Perthshire from 7am - 5pm on Saturday 23 November, and a Yellow alert for rain and snow is in place across the region from 4am on Saturday 23 until 9am on Saturday 24. High winds and gusts are also expected.

In light of these warnings, a decision was taken earlier today to cancel the planned Perth Christmas Light Switch-On celebrations for Saturday 23 November.

In addition, an Incident Management Team meeting was held this afternoon to ensure we are ready to deal with any adverse effects of the storm.

All services attended the meeting and reported on their preparedness to respond over the coming weekend. Detailed response plans are in place across the Council and our partner organisations both locally and nationally.

Another Incident Team Management meeting will be held tomorrow (Saturday 23 November) at 9am to evaluate the situation, and to ensure we remain fully prepared for any changing circumstances. Further IMT meetings will be held through the weekend if required.

Elected members will be kept up-to-date this weekend should that be necessary
