Almost 25,000 people have taken advantage of free bus travel in Perth and Kinross on the first Saturday of every month during 2024 - resulting in savings of nearly £69,000 in fares to residents.
With the festive season upon us, Perth and Kinross Council is excited to remind everyone about the upcoming free bus travel offer on Saturday 7 December. This opportunity aims to kickstart the Christmas festivities, encouraging residents and visitors to support local businesses by shopping, dining, and enjoying the local attractions.
Councillor Eric Drysdale, Convenor of the Council's Economy and Infrastructure Committee, said: "It's fantastic to see so many people taking advantage of the free bus offer. With Christmas fast approaching, I encourage everyone to jump onboard their local bus and enjoy all there is on offer in our area. Whether it's starting your Christmas shopping at our wonderful local independent businesses, enjoying the festive cabins, attending the Christmas Panto at Perth Theatre or visiting some of the great markets on Saturday 7 December - including Perth Farmers Market and the first Tattie in the Barn, near Arngask Farm, Glenfarg, the free bus offer adds extra value to your day.
Councillor Grant Laing, Leader of Perth and Kinross Council, added: "The free bus travel offer is a reminder that public transport is an environmentally friendly alternative to the car, and beneficial to our planet. I urge everyone to support their local bus services, not just on free bus Saturdays but by making more journeys via public transport."
The free bus offer, which began on Saturday 1 June, continues on the first Saturday of every month until 1 March 2025. Free bus travel applies on whole journeys within Perth and Kinross on services from Stagecoach East Scotland, Docherty's Midland Coaches, Elizabeth Yule Coaches, Sweeney's Garage and Glenfarg Community Transport Group.
