Contractor donation brings Christmas cheer to Letham

Some people living in Letham, Perth, will receive a festive boost this year thanks to a cash donation from one of Perth and Kinross Council's contractors.

Hugh L S McConnell Ltd is currently carrying out a roofing contract on Council homes across the area, including in Letham.

When contractors are awarded work from the Council, a community benefit aspect is factored in.

As part of this, McConnell has donated £2,000 to the Letham4 All foodbank. The money will be used to make up treat bags for people and families in Letham who need a bit of extra help this Christmas.

It will also pay for a three-course Christmas meal for families that receive free school meals, and a toy for children.

Housing and Social Wellbeing Convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, said: "Thank you to McConnell for this very kind donation that will make a real difference to local people this Christmas. Letham4All does fantastic work in the local community and this money will allow them to make Christmas special for many people who might be struggling at this time of year.

"We always factor in some community benefit to our contracts, and McConnell has already handed out some free laptops to local charities and provided employment to local young people through the contract."

John Hepburn, Regional Director at McConnell, said: "Letham4All is a fantastic charity that supports the local community all year round and we're pleased to be able to donate funds to help them make Christmas a little bit easier for those that might be struggling. We firmly believe in supporting the communities in which we work, and we're pleased we could team with Letham4All to make this happen.

"We're also thrilled to have the opportunity to educate the next generation about the different pathways within the Built Environment and provide opportunities to gain employment."
