This weekend, Perth will come alive with the vibrant celebrations of the Year of the Snake, marking the Chinese New Year on Saturday 25 January 2025.

The parade will begin at the corner of St John's Street and High Street, proceed to King Edward Street, where the parade will visit Perth Museum before making its way back to the corner of St John's Street and the High Street.

The parade will be the highlight of an afternoon filled with engaging activities and cultural experiences from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. All these free activities will take place in the Civic Hall, Council Building, 2 High Street, Perth.

Families can immerse themselves in the festivities with a variety of activities including lantern making, snake crafts, a chopstick challenge, face painting, and a thrilling kung fu demonstration.

Adding to the excitement, Auchingarrach Wildlife Centre will bring in real snakes, offering a unique opportunity for families to see these fascinating creatures up close.

Provost of Perth and Kinross, Xander McDade said: "The Chinese New Year celebrations are always a highlight of the year in Perth. This year's event promises to be even more special with the inclusion of live snakes and a variety of family-friendly activities. We look forward to welcoming everyone to join in the fun."

Chairperson of the Perth Chinese Association, Andy Chan expressed their enthusiasm: "We're thrilled to celebrate the Year of the Snake with such a diverse range of activities.

According to the Chinese horoscope 2025, the year of the Wood Snake will be a time of tremendous opportunity, renewal and potential. Using the snake's wisdom and intuition, couple with the inspirational and flexible nature of the wood element, we can anticipate a year full of both challenges and opportunities."

It's a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Chinese New Year."
