Purpose
This briefing note provides an update on the impact of Storm Éowyn on Friday January 24.
Details
Red Weather Warnings have been issued by the Met Office with Storm Éowyn forecast to bring disruptive winds as well as heavy rain and snow across Scotland on Friday.
An Amber weather warning for wind is in place for northern Perth and Kinross from 1pm on Friday January 24 to 6am on Saturday January 25.
An amber warning is also in place for the southern third of Perth and Kinross between 6am and 9pm tonight.
Yellow weather warnings for wind and snow have also been issued for Friday.
Gusts of up to 60mph have already been recorded at Strathallan Airfield near Crieff with the storm expected to peak this afternoon and evening.
Service disruptions
All schools and Early Learning and Childcare settings are closed on Friday as a precaution. All school lets are also cancelled.
Pullar House, 2 High Street and other council buildings are open but staff have been advised to work from home where possible.
Refuse collections have been suspended and recycling centres closed due to the high winds.
Perth Crematorium remains open for scheduled services.
Culture PK has closed Perth Museum, Perth Art Gallery and all libraries due to the weather.
A number of trees have fallen as a result of the storm and crews are working to clear these when it is safe for them to do so.
The Chinese New Year celebrations due to take place in Perth tomorrow will still go ahead but may be moved fully indoors if required.
The NFU protest is still due to take place on Saturday in Perth.
