About this Briefing Note

Subject: Friarton Bridge

Details

Purpose

This Briefing Note provides an update on the closure of Friarton Bridge due to smoke from a blaze at a recycling centre on Lower Friarton Road.

Briefing Information

Fire crews were called to a fire in a recycling centre at 3.50am on Tuesday, January 14.

There are no injuries. It is believed the fire was caused by a lithium battery.

The M90 Friarton Bridge had been closed in both directions due the volume of smoke from the blaze. There is no threat to the bridge itself but it is expected it may take some hours to extinguish the blaze.

Traffic is being diverted through Perth but the closure is causing delays and tailbacks in some areas.

Scottish Fire and Rescue has advised those living nearby to keep windows closed because of the smoke.

Our parking and civil contingencies team is being stood up to provide assurance, support and a visible presence in the locations normally impacted by the bridge closure.

We have updated residents through our social media channels and will provide further updates through the day when necessary.
