Improved performances by pupils at Perth and Kinross schools have been recorded as part of efforts to reduce the poverty-related attainment gap among children and young people.
The Scottish Attainment Challenge Funding Report 2024/25 provides a comprehensive overview of how Perth and Kinross Council has used targeted funding to address the poverty-related attainment gap.
The report outlines the background and purpose of the Scottish Attainment Challenge, which aims to improve educational outcomes for those most impacted by poverty and other barriers to success.
The document presents data showing an improvement in attainment of children and young people in Perth and Kinross, while acknowledging ongoing challenges, especially in secondary attendance and among care-experienced young people.
It describes a range of interventions, such as professional development for staff, nurturing relationships programmes, targeted support for families, and mentoring schemes like MCR Pathways. Case studies illustrate the positive impact of these initiatives on individual pupils and schools, highlighting improvements in engagement, confidence, and academic achievement.
Learning and Families Committee Convener, Councillor John Rebbeck said: "Narrowing the poverty-related attainment gap is incredibly important.
"It's heartening to see attainment rising across the board but we will continue to work hard to ensure those from more disadvantaged backgrounds enjoy the same life chances as others.
"We know there is no quick fix and I thank staff for their hard work and commitment to making sure all children and young people in Perth and Kinross get the best education possible."
