Knife Angel - Book of Reflections

Perth is the first city in Scotland to host the Knife Angel, a powerful statue made with confiscated blades used to warn against the dangers of violence and aggressive behaviour

Standing at 8.2m tall (27 feet) statue and constructed from 100,000 seized weapons from police forces across the UK, was created by the British Ironworks Centre and has been on display in towns across England and Wales.

The statue will be displayed outside Perth Museum on King Edward Street until 13 January 2025.

People are invited to sign the online book of reflections below to remember the victims of knife crime.

Standing infront of this sculpture was such an overwhelming experience. I have experienced loss due to knife crime and expected to look and turn my nose up at such a sculpture in the middle of the town it happened in. But i stood there full of emotion and felt the loss of every person in Perth due to knife crime.

This sculpture has such an incredible impact and I can only hope as it travels that others also feel the same message we have all felt.

Rest in Paradise Dad, Gone but never forgotten.

May the victims be at Peace and knowledge be a light of remembrance to us all.

RIP Barry, gone but never forgotten.

Councillor John Duff

I have seen the terrifying effects of knife crime up close during my 30 years as a police officer. Far too many lives have been taken or ruined by knives. We need to do everything in our power to discourage the carrying of weapons and enforce the law. No one else should lose a son or a brother or a father to needless brutality. Let's remember all those who have been the victims of knife crime and violence throughout the UK and pledge to do our best to prevent any more deaths.

Jilly

Rest in peace our cammy, I hope the knife angel opens peoples eyes that knife crime is not okay. Too many lives are taken far too soon. Until we meet again bestie ❤️

Stuart

I have so many happy memories of us growing up together, and could never have imagined not having my big brother in my life now. Our terrible loss and lifelong upset just because one horrible coward felt big carrying a knife, and with no care for the lives of others used a knife. Love and miss you always Barry.

Oliwia

A beautiful, frightening sculpture which represents the sad world we live in. May it hit the right people and minimise knife crime in our streets. Weapons are for cowards. You will be in our hearts forever Cammy, simply the best ❤️

Charlotte Stewart

Beautiful sculpture, brought back memories of when my brother was attacked by young lads with a knife in Glasgow. He's GBNF.

Helen Quinn

Such a sad reason for the Knife Angel to be created but hopefully his message will get through and people will stop carrying knives with them. It only takes a second to make that decision to use a blade instead of a fist , but that decision then impacts on so many families. Signing in support of Cammy Rae Burgess, Barry Dixon and all their families and friends . Let's stop knife violence now. ❤️❤️❤️

Alan

Rest in peace Barry, you were a great worker and great lad, proud to have known you.

DS

Seeing people stop at this magnificent statue every day has been incredible. Such a powerful symbol of hope for a better, knife free future.

Alison

The angel reflects so many meanings. Angels are symbolic of peace, religion, protection and hope, so I loved the juxtaposition of what angels symbolically represent with what knives and knife crime symbolise. I was also in awe of the stature of this sculpture and the look of despair on the face of the angel. The outstretched hands ask the profound yet simple question, "Why?"

Why do people walk around with such weapons? Not only is there risk to others, but risk to those carrying the weapon.
I loved that Perth hosted such an amazing work of art and I was left moved by it.

Henn

The Angel is beautiful in a tragic ,but compassionate way.
The expression on this face makes me cry ,because it represents to me pain, suffering ,compassion and also feeling the Void that is left behind for the people who have lost their loved ones to knife crime.
I marvel at the artists skill to allow the eyes to be open to interpretation from the beholder.
Emptiness of the void, but still compassionate.
I have no words that can fully describe the impact this Sculpture has had on me.
Thank you for letting me feel the Void. xxx

Denise

In our hearts forever. Rest in peace Albhoy ❤️

Kirsten

The Knife Angel is a stunning piece of art. I can only hope it makes people stop and think about the consequences of carrying knives which our city has sadly seen too many times in recent years. Remembering all of those we've lost and their loved ones.

Fiona

Thinking of all the families affected by knife crime. May the angel watch over you all x

Aunty Shar

So many lives have been destroyed by those carrying knives.
Sleep tight "Cameroon" and Barry❤️

Donald

As I reflect on the knife angel, I think about the fact that its not the knifes themselves that are the issue,( this is a fantastic piece of art) its the fear and intimidation that our communities are under that is the real issue. We need to concentrate and focus on rebuilding families and core values, refocus on bringing up our young people with appropriate discipline and reconnect with the idea that having rights and freedom comes with values and responsibilities.

Steve T

May the Knife Angel statue serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of knife crime and the lives forever changed by its devastation.

It stands not only in memory of those we have lost but as a call for unity, compassion, and change. Let it inspire us to work together toward a future where peace and understanding replace violence and fear.

Kerry Burgess

Miss you my boy Cammy Rae taken far too soon by knife crime. Hurts my heart. Forever20.

Well done PKC let's hope it hits the right people that it's not ok to carry a knife. It rips families to pieces.

Carole Saunders

I don't have personal experience of knife crime, but have been a witness and a juror in court proceedings. The offender in both cases seemed oblivious that carrying blades leads to stabbing and death, even if those particular individuals don't use their blades. Even carrying a knife builds that negative culture. No wonder this powerful Angel weeps. Congratulations Perth and Kinross Council bringing this memorial to Scotland. Thinking of everyone affected by knife crime with sadness, but hope for a better future.
