The next steps - after you have submitted your application

What will happen after I have submitted my application?

After the closing date, the recruiting manager will review applications and invite candidates to interview. Please be aware that this can take up to 2 weeks. You will receive an email from our recruitment team advising how your application will be progressed and the next steps.  If you are selected for interview, you will be notified of the date, timing, location and who will be interviewing you on the day.  We have also prepared hints and tips to help you prepare for your interview.

There have been occasions when this email has gone into applicant's junk email so please keep an eye on your emails.

What happens at the interview?

This is your chance to shine! The interview panel will explain in more detail about the job and will ask questions so they can learn more about you, your skills and experiences.

These include confirmation of your right to work in the UK, references and either a basic or enhanced disclosure. Your new supervisor will keep in contact with you, updating you on the progress of the pre-employment checks and will agree a start date with you. Launching your career with us - what to expect

What happens when I start my apprenticeship?

You will be welcomed into your new team by your supervisor. They will introduce you to the rest of the team, give an indepth insight into the team and your role within it.

The first week can be exciting, but, also slightly scary. Your new supervisor will ensure that you have all the information and support you need to allow you to settle in. Remember and ask if you have any questions. We want you to enjoy your time working with us.

A member of the Human Resources team will also meet with you and your supervisor, to confirm who will support you through your modern apprenticeship. This may happen in-person or on Microsoft Teams.

You will have an initial 4-week assessment period before you start your qualification. This will give you time to get to know your team and understand some of the tasks you will be carrying out.

How will I know if it's right for me?

We want you to settle in and enjoy working for us. Your supervisor and assessor will regularly discuss with you how you are getting on and if there is anything more we can do to support you, then please ask.

If at any point, you feel the apprenticeship programme is not for you, please discuss with your supervisor so we can discuss together the best way forward.

How does the training work?

Depending on which qualification you are progressing, this will be delivered either within the workplace or by College attendance.

If delivered within the workplace, you will be given time, during your working week, to progress this. You will be allocated an assessor to support you through the qualification who will meet with you regularly and give you advice on what evidence you should collect.

If delivered by College attendance, this could be either one day per week or block release (attending for a week or two weeks a few times a year).

Any expenses will be covered by the Council.

What happens when I come to the end of my apprenticeship?

When working with us, you will have access to our internal vacancies and we encourage you to apply for all suitable vacancies.

If you are successful in gaining another post with us, you will be supported to still complete your modern apprentice qualification.

We also run a "job academy".  You will be registered on this academy, where suitable posts are held for job academy candidates to apply. We will also support and advise you on opportunities that further your chosen career path.

News

For Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024, our Modern Apprentices were out and about, learning about all the diverse array of roles within #TeamPKC.

Kicking off the week with a "connections event", they delved into the pivotal work of the IDART Team (Integrated Drug Alcohol Recovery Team), gaining insight into their crucial support for individuals with drugs and/or alcohol dependencies. Additionally, apprentices participated in Naloxone training.  The apprentices also met Lucy, from Developing the new Young Workforce team, who was scouting for potential new Apprentice Ambassadors.

Throughout the week, they visited teams from Youth Services, Housing Repairs customer services team, Reach and had an illuminating visit to the Sheriff Court and Safer Communities Team.  Thank you to our community wardens for giving a valuable insight into their work.
