Zero Waste Fortnights raise awareness of how householders can reduce, reuse and recycle. They support communities to reduce the amount of waste sent for disposal, saving resources and helping to address climate change.

During a Zero Waste Fortnight, householders are encouraged to think more carefully about the waste that they produce and how they dispose of it - with the aim of putting as little as possible in the general waste bin over this two week period. Events are arranged throughout the Fortnight to encourage everyone to get involved.
Before and after the Fortnight, general waste bins and recycling bins are weighed so as to measure the success of the Campaign. The monetary savings are assessed and awarded back to the community. For every tonne of increased recycling and for every tonne of decreased general waste, Perth & Kinross Council will award the approximate cost of sending one tonne of waste to landfill (over £100 per tonne) back to the community, for spending on something of the community's choice.
