ECO Stars Perth and Kinross

What is ECO stars?

The ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme is a free, voluntary scheme that provides recognition, guidance and advice on best environmental practice to operators of HGVs, vans, buses and coaches across Scotland, the United Kingdom and beyond. Perth & Kinross Council are currently assisting in the rollout of the scheme in the area to help fleet operators improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions whilst at the same time, allowing for an overall reduction in business expenditure in these areas.

Members of the ECO Stars scheme are awarded an ECO Star rating when they first join which can range from 1 to 5 Stars based on an assessment of their current operational and environmental performance regarding their fleet. Free guidance and advice is then provided on fleet composition, fuel management, driver skills development, IT support systems, performance monitoring and preventative maintenance over time to improve your ECO Star rating and in turn, reduce fleet related business costs over time.

Originating in South Yorkshire, the scheme has been adopted by multiple local authorities in the UK as well as several cities across Europe with the scheme having more than 200 members and 14,000 vehicles!

How can we join ECO stars?

The Perth and Kinross ECO Stars scheme is open to all operators with a fleet who are based in Perth & Kinross Council or operate regularly in/through the area. Applicants can be of any size (with 1 vehicle being the minimum requirement) and includes all types of commercial vehicles. All industry sectors are welcome.

The ECO Stars scheme can assist in areas such as fuel efficiency with an expected 5% (minimum) reduction in fuel consumption expected in the first year. Combined with such a saving, you will also be assisting in improving the air quality in Perth & Kinross Council with the ultimate aim of vehicles reducing their CO2 output and operating a greener fleet.

ECO Stars is free and simple to join with no formal audit process. Members can expect one-to-one support and consultancy with practical guidance and advice always an email/phone call away. By joining ECO Stars, you will be raising the environmental profile of your business and as such, will be recognised as an environmentally responsible fleet operator by other operators, customers and the wider national community.

Please visit ECO Stars for further information and contact the ECO Stars team to have an informal chat or discuss the scheme in more detail:
