Tayside Contracts

Tayside Contracts is a commercially based local authority contracting organisation providing catering, cleaning, roads maintenance, vehicle maintenance and winter maintenance throughout the Tayside area of Scotland (covering the areas served by Angus, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross Councils).

Who are Tayside Contracts?

Tayside Contracts was established in 1997 and has worked together with the three Councils in Tayside, handling shared projects and business operations. The three Councils are Angus Council, Dundee City Council and Perth and Kinross Council.

Tayside Contracts are not a private company, they are governed by a Joint Committee of 18 Elected Members from the three Councils, under a shared Minute of Agreement (PDF, 479 KB), signed by all three councils.

What do Tayside Contracts do?

Tayside Contracts takes on a wide range of important tasks. Here are just a few examples of their work.

  • Tayside Contracts are a significant civil engineering and construction organisation and deliver a wide range of services such as road repairs, maintenance and construction, winter maintenance and street lighting improvements
  • They are also the biggest catering organisation in Tayside! They serve over 5 million meals every year to schools and community customers, which is nearly 30,000 meals every single day
  • The Facilities Management team maintains over 400 buildings, ensuring they remain clean, well-kept, and safe for all occupants
  • They have 170 School Crossing Patrollers to help keep the children safe when travelling to and from school
  • During the winter they treat on average over 355,000km of roads to protect people travelling
  • They also have teams such as Human Resources, Safety and Training, IT, Finance, Communications, Equalities and Business Support Teams which are all invaluable to their success

Every pound Tayside Contracts makes from commercial activities is reinvested into public services and local communities. Over the years they have generated more than £32 million in surpluses, which has been distributed among the three Councils in Tayside.
