Comrie residents are celebrating after the town's Legion Park underwent a £227,000 facelift.
This ambitious project has been driven by residents, led by Terri Bacon and the Friends of Legion Park group in Comrie, in partnership with the Council's Community Greenspace team.
Over the past three years, the team has worked closely with the community to develop plans for revitalising the play area and creating a masterplan for wider park improvements.
The masterplan sets out a vision for a more inclusive and welcoming space, incorporating an extended path network, new seating and cycle racks, improved football facilities, and an outdoor pavilion structure for outdoor learning and community events. These enhancements aim to make the park more accessible and enjoyable for all ages while supporting active lifestyles and community gatherings.
A public consultation on the masterplan was held in summer 2024 and received 94 responses through the Council's consultation hub, alongside additional feedback through other channels.
The response was overwhelmingly positive and highlighted several priorities for the detailed design, including the provision of sensory and inclusive play equipment, improved accessibility, and additional seating. The consultation also raised ideas around biodiversity and sustainability, such as tree planting and grass management in line with the Council's Grow Wild scheme.
These measures will not only enhance the park's appearance and welcome but also reduce maintenance and support local wildlife.
Thanks to a combination of the Council's capital and revenue play park budget, Scottish Government Funding, and money raised by the Friends of Legion Park, the first phase of the masterplan, valued at £227,000, began in August 2025 and is now complete. The community group has also secured additional funding for further improvements in the near future.
These improvements mark a major step toward creating a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable space for the Comrie community to enjoy for years to come.
Councillor Eric Drysdale, Leader of Perth and Kinross Council and Convenor of the Council's Economy and Infrastructure Committee said: "This project is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when communities and local authorities work together.
"Play parks are not just places for fun. They encourage active lifestyles, social interactions and time outdoors, for both adults and children, which is so important for physical and mental health.
"We're thrilled to see the park transformed into a space that reflects the needs and aspirations of Comrie residents."
Bailie Rhona Brock, Strathearn Ward Councillor, added: "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the "Friends of Legion Park" for their dedication and delivery of a fantastic playpark.
"When I met with the group in 2022 it was clear the enthusiasm that this small group had to achieve a playpark that would be special to Comrie. I was delighted £50,000 funding was granted in the 2023 budget to help support their fundraising and get the project off the ground, the group continued to fundraise to achieve their goal to allow the project to proceed.
"The Park is unique to Comrie with a lot of thought being put into the design. I also want to thank our officers for all the support given to the group with the design and funding."
