Measures intended to cut vehicle speeds and improve road safety in Perth and Kinross as part of rolling out a national strategy locally are now set to move forward to full completion.
Perth and Kinross Council has been working over the past year to make appropriate adjustments to speed limits on local urban roads and streets after detailed assessment and in discussion with elected members on a location-by-location basis, tailored to individual circumstances. The roll-out is intended to cover around 135 communities across the Council area.
With nine of the twelve wards now complete, the project will now move on Wards 3 (Blairgowrie and Glens), 5 (Strathtay) and 9 (Almond and Earn) with works scheduled to begin on 27 July 2026 and take up to five months to complete.
Perth and Kinross Council Leader Councillor Eric Drysdale and Economy and Infrastructure Committee Convener Councillor Grant Laing have welcomed the progress made on the roll-out.
Councillor Drysdale said: "We have a large and primarily rural Council area which adds to the complexity of delivering on this national programme, so I am pleased that we should see the project completed by the end of 2026 in the interests of safety on our roads for all users."
Councillor Laing commented: "I look forward to the completion of the local roll-out for the national 20mph strategy, as another step towards improving public safety on our roads by tackling excessive speed."
