County Sports 2026 gets schools moving

The exceptional sporting achievements of local children and young people will be highlighted at the upcoming Perth and Kinross Schools County Sports Championships 2026.

This exciting two-day athletics event will take place at the George Duncan Athletics Arena in Perth and showcase the determination, skill, and sportsmanship of pupils from across the region.

The event kicks off on Tuesday 16 June 2026 from 10.00am to 2.15pm, with the Primary Schools' Finals and the thrilling P7 Relay Championships.  Over 1,000 P6 and P7 pupils from across Perth and Kinross will have competed in qualifying events for a chance to represent their schools on this final stage.  The P7 Relay Championships are open to all primary schools in the local authority, adding further excitement to the day's competitions.

On Wednesday 17 June 2026 from 10.00am to 2.15pm, the Secondary Schools' Championships will take centre stage.  Pupils from all Perth and Kinross secondary schools will compete for individual medals and team trophies in a range of events, proudly representing their schools.

You can expect to see a wide variety of track and field events, including the 80/100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m races, as well as high jump, long jump, shot put, discus, javelin, and the 4x100m relay.  The competition will crown multiple 'Perth and Kinross Champions' - a prestigious title earned through commitment and athletic excellence.

The Perth and Kinross Schools County Sports event is a collaborative effort supported by a dedicated group of PE and Active Schools staff.  Their dedication and countless volunteer hours exemplify best practice in physical education and reflect the Council's and Active Schools' joint commitment to enriching learning experiences through sport and supporting the development of a strong competitive schools' sports structure.

Councillor John Rebbeck, the Council's Learning and Families Convener said: "I wish all the schools and all the children and young people taking part in this year's County Sports event the very best of luck. This annual celebration of sporting achievement also highlights the value of lifelong participation in sport and staying physically active, and I would also like to thank all the staff from our schools and Live Active Leisure who support pupils to take part."
