An extremely positive assessment of Our Lady's RC Primary School and Nursery Class in Perth was published on Tuesday 23 June 2026 by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education in Scotland (HMIE).
During their visit in April 2026, the inspection team considered the work of the school in detail and spoke to parents, carers and children, and worked closely with the headteacher and staff. In the course of their inspection, they identified a number of important strengths for Our Lady's:
A very well respected and highly effective headteacher leading the school with humility. The headteacher is considered to be empowering others and with very able support from the depute headteacher, has developed a strong collaborative approach to improvement in the school including outcomes for children.
Polite, articulate and kind pupils who demonstrate the school values very well and are inspired by various leadership roles they receive, playing their part in improving the school.
Wellbeing and the upholding of children's rights were found at the heart of school life. Inspectors felt that staff work very well together to ensure that children are happy, developing resilience and making progress with their learning.
Very effective support for school staff from partner organisations enabling them to recognise and celebrate children's achievements in a variety of thoughtful and effective ways. Children at Our Lady's were considered to be developing important skills for learning, life and work through a variety of well-considered and appropriate activities both within and outwith the school.
In both the primary school and nursery class against key quality indicators, HMIE rated Our Lady's as very good across the board. One area of improvement is recommended in the report, and has already been discussed with the headteacher and an officer from the Council's Education and Learning service: that the school should continue to build on its effective learning and teaching practices, to ensure that all children experience a high quality of teaching with tasks and activities at appropriate levels for them.
Given the extremely positive nature of the inspection, and clear evidence of Our Lady's capacity for continuous improvement, HMIE will make no further visits in connection with their April 2026 inspection.
Learning and Families Convener Councillor John Rebbeck said: "My warmest congratulations go to the headteacher, her staff and all the children at Our Lady's Roman Catholic Primary School and Nursery Class. This report makes for very heartening reading and reflects a very clear commitment to delivering opportunities for children to learn and flourish to the best of their potential."
