Our assessment criteria is used to assess requests with a higher number of points being assigned on the basis of severity or presence of hazards, in a deliberate effort to reduce both the number and the severity of road traffic collisions on the local road network.

Speeding concerns

If your report is regarding speeding, enforcement of speed limits is the responsibility of Police Scotland.

Excessive speeding or speeding because of anti-social behaviour should be reported directly to your local police office or by phoning the Police non-emergency service on 101.

How we can make our roads safer

Traffic calming measures

Traffic calming is not simply about reducing traffic speeds. It is used to help reduce the number of road casualties on our roads. The methods used include:

  • road humps and cushions;
  • Vehicle-activated signs (VAS);
  • Anti-skid surfacing
  • New road signs

Speed limit changes

If it is considered that a change in the speed limit is warranted then a new Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has to be made. This involves a statutory legal process that may take up to nine months to complete.

You can view current Traffic Regulations Orders advertised by the Council.

If your road safety concern is not listed in the road safety projects list, you can make a request online.

What happens next?

The Road Safety team will assess the request and if they consider the traffic calming measure to be suitable, they will add it to the list of road safety projects.
