Health and wellbeing for carers

Caring for someone can be rewarding but it can also affect your health and wellbeing, particularly your mental health so it's important to look after yourself.

Your wellbeing

Mental health encompasses both mental wellbeing and mental health problems. Mental wellbeing includes life satisfaction, positive relationships with others and having a sense of purpose. Mental health problems include conditions such as depression and anxiety.

If you need to talk to someone, there is help available.

Our Wellbeing support services aims to support short term support for adults aged 16+ who have mental health needs. The team work from four rural bases in Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy, Crieff and Kinross.

Resources and information can be found on our Mental Health and Wellbeing page for information and support that is available for you and the person you care for.

Short Breaks for Carers

Short breaks for carers (also known as respite) gives you time off from your caring role as well as enabling you to do something that you want to do for yourself.

Whether it's for a week, one morning a week or just occasionally. Various options are available and the person you care for will be looked after or supported by someone else.

Residential Respite

You can request residential respite where the person you care for stays in a care home or flexible residential respite where a number of nights is offered and can be taken at various times.

Care can be provided following an appropriate community care assessment. To do this, please contact our Access Team on 0345 30 111 20 or email AccessTeam@pkc.gov.uk

Respite Voucher Scheme - Respite at home

Respite Vouchers provide the chance to have a few hours of care in the home of the person you care for. This will allow you to have time off from your routine and give you a break from caring.
