Requests for information relating to the environment are dealt with under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004; this gives you the right to see environmental information unless there's a good reason, permitted by the Regulations, to withhold it.
How do I make a request for environmental information?
You don't need to decide if you want to make a request under The Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs) or the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act; you can just make a freedom of information request and the FOI team will decide which legislation is the correct one to use.
You can check if the information you want is already available by checking our Publication Scheme.
If you want to make a request you can email foi@pkc.gov.uk, or write to us at the address noted below. EIR requests can also be submitted verbally; if you do this we will confirm your request in writing.
You need to give us your real name, a description of the information you would like to see and an email or postal address. You don't need to tell us why you want the information.
Responding to requests for environmental information
In almost every case we will respond to requests for environmental information within twenty working days. However, if there is a very large amount of information, or it's very complicated, we can take up to forty working days to respond. We will let you know if this happens.
If you're unhappy with our response, you have the right to ask us for a review (PDF, 203 KB). If you're still unhappy after a review, you have the right to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner.
