Applying for a licence
To make an application for a caravan site licence, download an application form:
The application form should be completed and accompanied by a site plan to a scale of 1:500 showing the layout of the roads, caravans, fire and water points and location and details of sanitary and washing facilities.
There is no fee payable for touring or holiday site licence applications. A site inspection may be required.
Licence conditions
Licences have conditions which may include:
- the type of caravan, e.g. static holiday or touring and number of units
- the permitted opening period of the site
- water supply and drainage; toilet and washing facilities
- electrical installations
Failure to comply with licence conditions may result in enforcement action.
Fire safety
Fire safety is no longer included in the caravan site licensing regime, but all sites are still required to comply with current Fire Safety legislation. The responsibility for enforcement of Fire Safety on caravan sites rests with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
If you are a caravan site owner
You should have a licence already, but you should check that your name, the site name and address is correct and up to date. Also check that the licence corresponds with your planning permission. If not, you should send us the licence for re-issue.
If you have recently become a caravan site owner
Licences are transferable to a new occupier, but the law requires us to give consent for the transfer. You should send us the licence with a request for transfer and we will either endorse or re-issue it.
If you are a potential site owner
You or your legal advisor should check that all the land used for siting caravans has planning permission and that the details correspond with the site licence. If you wish to change the use of the land to a residential caravan site, you must have planning permission for this use before a licence can be issued.
