More partnerships with childminders sought for early learning and childcare delivery

Perth and Kinross Council is inviting childminders to come along to forthcoming events covering how they can get into partnership with the Council to deliver funded hours of early learning and childcare (ELC).

A number of childminders around Perth and Kinross currently work in partnership with the Council to deliver funded ELC. In addition, a small group also work as Community Childminders, a role which supports children and families with varying needs and delivers targeted short-term placements for children aged two and up, where children may benefit from spending time in a homely environment with an experienced childminder to support their health and wellbeing.

The Council is therefore looking to work with more childminders in partnership to deliver funded ELC, and to bring existing partner childminders into Community Childminding.

Community Childminders will receive a higher rate of pay, reflecting the complex nature and additional demands involved.

The upcoming information sessions about funded ELC delivery and community childminding will be held around the Perth and Kinross area during May and June 2024 (all sessions from 6pm to 7.30pm unless otherwise stated):

  • Monday 27 May - Coupar Angus Primary School
  • Wednesday 29 May - Errol Primary School
  • Tuesday 4 June - Pitlochry High School
  • Wednesday 5 June - Blairgowrie High School
  • Saturday 15 June - North Inch Community Campus, Perth (10-11.30am)
  • Monday 17 June - Strathearn Community Campus, Crieff

Convener of Learning and Families, Councillor John Rebbeck, said: "We value the contribution childminders make to outcomes for children and their families in Perth and Kinross, so we would like to see more registered childminders become partner providers for ELC with us, and also to develop our Community Childminders project further. For those reasons, we are very keen to hear from registered childminders and I would encourage them to come along to the information sessions coming up in the near future."

Anyone wishing to sign up for any of the events listed above is asked to complete a short online form or to email ELC@pkc.gov.uk
