The A926 Blairgowrie to Alyth road will be closed between Pictfield and the Half Way House junction for six weeks starting from 9.30am on Monday, 17 February, for gas works by SGN.
The road was temporarily closed last week for an emergency repair to the gas main.
However, further investigation has revealed that an entire 600-metre length of the gas main needs to be replaced.
Due to its location in the middle of the road, it would be dangerous to operate a contraflow system while engineers are working.
We appreciate the inconvenience this will cause for many motorists but these works by SGN are vital for ensuring the safety and reliability of the gas supply.
As the local authority, we will be looking to bring forward any other works scheduled for this road so they can happen concurrently, reducing inconvenience for motorists.
Diversions will be put in place, and there will be changes to public transport to assist commuters during this period.
Stagecoach Service 57/57A will be impacted by this closure. Dundee and Perth bound services will operate between Meigle and Blairgowrie Wellmeadow via the A94 - Coupar Angus - A923. Services will not operate via Rattray, New Alyth & Alyth.
Passengers from Rattray will require to access Service 57/57A at Blairgowrie Wellmeadow.
Passengers from New Alyth & Alyth will be linked to Service 57/57A at Meigle by a shuttle bus operating a reduced timetable.
Blairgowrie Freedom Coach will operate the earlier morning commuter journeys on Mondays to Saturdays for the six-week period, while Stagecoach will undertake off peak journeys during the day and the early evening journeys. No late evening journeys or Sunday shuttle service will operate.

Following the closure of the A926 (Rattray - Alyth) earlier today for emergency gas repair works, the following changes to school transport arrangements have now been put in place from this afternoon for the duration of the closure.

Service 57 (Stagecoach): Dundee - Alyth - Rattray - Blairgowrie (High School) - Perth | Service will not operate between Meigle (0814), Alyth (0823) & Rattray for Blairgowrie High School (0850). Pupils from Alyth are requested to travel on the Contract buses they are allocated to. |
Stagecoach now operates a 1439 departure (Monday to Saturday) from Meigle (opp Church) to allow connections for passengers to Alyth (1448) and New Alyth (1454) from their Service 57 journeys at 1413 to Dundee & 1439 to Blairgowrie.
Due to shuttle bus capacity issues (Monday to Friday) experienced on the New Alyth (0736) - Alyth (0741) - Meigle (0750) journey operated by Blairgowrie Freedom Coach, the journey will now only connect with the Stagecoach Service 57 departure at Meigle (0751) for Dundee. A separate return journey has now been added to the timetable operating Meigle (0751) - Alyth (0801) - Meigle (0810) to connect with the Stagecoach Service 57 from Meigle (0814) to Blairgowrie/Perth.
The last shuttle bus journey (Monday to Saturday) has also been split to provide an additional return journey between Meigle and Alyth to avoid the waiting time being experienced in the evening.
These additional journeys will commence from the evening of Saturday, 22 February 2025.
