16 Days of Activism 2025 gets underway

The annual 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence begins on Tuesday 25 November 2025, with the local launch taking place on Friday 21 November at Perth Concert Hall.

Organised by Perth and Kinross Violence Against Women Partnership (PKVAWP), Perth and Kinross Council, and key partners including Perthshire Women's Aid and RASAC Perth and Kinross, this year's programme covers a diverse range of events aimed at women who have experienced domestic abuse, the professionals who work with them and their families, and the wider local community.

On Tuesday 25 November, local members of Soroptimists International will mark the start of the campaign with a silent vigil in Perth High Street, with a special healing and wellbeing event for women affected by domestic abuse following in the afternoon at Perth Art Gallery.

A powerful exhibition 'What Were You Wearing?' will be on show at UHI Perth from Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 November, showing that the clothes sexual assault survivors wore never equated to their consent.

On Wednesday 3 December, the Reclaim the Night March will take place in Perth City Centre, bringing together women and allies to show solidarity with women around the world living with fear and violence, and demonstrate their right to walk the streets at night.

Several events aimed at professionals in the fields of social work, social care and family support will also be taking place during the 16 days considering key issues around domestic abuse.

John Swinney, MSP for Perthshire North, will speak at the launch event. He said: "The 16 Days of Activism campaign is a vital reminder that there is simply no place for gender-based violence in our society.

"At a time when misogyny is, unfortunately, on the rise, it is incumbent upon all of us to unequivocally condemn gender-based violence and stand in solidarity with survivors.

"I am proud to support this campaign, and I extend my sincere thanks to all those involved in its organisation, along with everyone across Perth and Kinross who is working tirelessly to support survivors and help build a safer future for all."

Perth and Kinross Council's Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee Convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, said: "Once again, Perth and Kinross will join the international community to add our voice to the call against gender-based violence as we participate in the 16 Days of Activism campaign.

"This presents a unique opportunity to increase awareness, and to help prevent and eliminate this extremely serious issue.

"There is a comprehensive programme of events in Perth and Kinross, and I would encourage people to get involved. Members of the Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee are fully behind this campaign."
