Keep Safe Scheme (Safe Place)

Our Safer Communities Team originally launched a 'safe place' scheme, with the Centre for Inclusive Living Perth and Kinross (CILPK), training local staff to help people with a disability who may have difficulties accessing assistance or advice whilst in the city centre.

A number of focus groups organised in conjunction with the Centre for Inclusive Living Perth and Kinross  (CILPK) identified that people with a disability sometimes have difficulty in accessing assistance or advice if they need to when in the city centre. This initiative was developed to try and deal with these issues.

Through the scheme, visitors to the City Centre who have a disability would be able to go into local shops/businesses who are members of the scheme if they are feeling worried or concerned and staff within these shops will be able to assist them.

The scheme is now part of the national Keep Safe initiative and businesses and organisations that are members will have a sign in their premises indicating that they are involved.  Full details can be found on the Keep Safe Scheme in Perth and Kinross website.
