For Council Tax purposes, we will treat you as a student if you are non-British and you are either the spouse, civil partner or the dependant of a full time student
A 100% exemption can be awarded if the dwelling is occupied wholly by qualifying students. A 25% discount can be awarded if all but one of the adults living in the property are qualifying students.
If there are other adults residing at the property, you may still be entitled to a discount depending on their circumstances. Please contact Local Taxes on 01738 477430 for more information.
Eligibility
To qualify as a student for Council Tax purposes, a person must be:
- the spouse/civil partner or dependant of a student
- a non-British citizen
- someone whose right of entry or residence is dependent on you not being allowed to work or having no recourse to public funds.
In order to complete our online application, you will be required to supply:
- A copy of a passport and/or visa which confirms the individual is prevented from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits
- If details of the person who is a full-time student and evidence of their course have not already been supplied, please ensure these are provided within this application by selecting the relevant disregard option
