Get involved now by hunting through your cupboards, shed and garage for unwanted, broken or old electrical and electronic equipment.
Keep a reusable bag somewhere in the kitchen for Small-WEEE and then when the bag is getting full, bring it with you when you are next passing one of the Small-WEEE Banks or your nearest Recycling Centre. Every item of Small-WEEE can help Perth and Kinross reach the 70% Recycling Target for 2025.
Examples of unwanted small electrical items (Small-WEEE)
Kettles, timers, electronic scales, toasters, telephones, hair-straighteners, leads, chargers, speakers, remote controls, children's electrical toys, radios, lamps, sat-navs, IT equipment, DIY tools, powered garden tools, gadgets.
Please note that plug-in oil radiators cannot be recycled as Small WEEE and should instead be recycled alongside fridges and freezers at any of PKC's Recycling Centres.
Please note that battery-operated, single use disposable vapes, (such as Elf Bars) cannot be recycled as Small-WEEE. The disposable vapes must only be recycled at PKC Recycling Centres, dropped off at the household batteries collection point at the Recycling Centre.
Reasons to recycle WEEE
- Electrical items contain many valuable resources and raw materials including precious metals, steel, aluminium, copper and circuit boards which can be salvaged for reuse when they are diverted from landfill for recycling.
- If WEEE was not recycled, it would end up being sent for disposal in landfill. In 2015/16, disposing waste to landfill cost £92.50 per tonne.
- UK electrical waste from 2012 to 2020 was predicted to total more than 12 million tonnes, containing in the region of £7 billion worth of precious metals.
