Information for householders
Householders can use recycling centres free of charge to dispose of a wide range of materials including general waste, recycling such as paper, cardboard, plastic, cans, garden waste, waste electrical and electronic equipment, and bulky household items.
Recycling points
Recycling points are located across Perth and Kinross and are available for householders. These sites are designed for smaller quantities of recycling and typically accept mixed glass bottles and jars, paper and cardboard, cans and plastics at selected sites. Check your nearest recycling point to see what is accepted.
Information for businesses
Businesses can use recycling centres to dispose of paper, cardboard, cans, plastics or scrap metal. To use these facilities, businesses must have a valid Commercial Permit and will be charged depending on the type of waste.
Friarton weighbridge
Businesses can also use the Friarton Weighbridge to dispose of waste and recycling:
- charges apply based on the type and weight of waste
- payment must be made by debit or credit card
- a valid Commercial Permit is required
This is often the most suitable option for larger volumes of waste or mixed loads.
Before visiting recycling centres
Our recycling centres can be busy and taking the following steps will help you make the most of your visit:
- check the latest opening times of your chosen recycling centre; plan your visit around quieter times if possible
- if you are a householder using a commercial-type vehicle, apply for your Domestic Exemption Permit; this is free of charge
- if you are a business, apply for your Commercial Permit
- if you have a permit, make sure it clearly displayed in your windscreen as an A4 printout or electronically on a tablet or mobile device
- separate your materials in advance to reduce time onsite
Visiting recycling centres
All visitors to recycling centres are reminded that you cannot enter the sites on foot or by bicycle. Each site has a limit to the number of vehicles permitted.
Please stay in your vehicle until you have been allocated a space to unload your items. Our recycling centres can be busy, and you may need to queue. Queuing on public roads is not permitted. If you arrive at the centre and there is no room to queue off-road, please leave and return at another time.
Site Attendants may request to inspect the waste, confirm its origin and require a signed declaration verifying that the waste is domestic. They will direct you to the correct unloading point, helping to reduce visitors wandering around the site. Please note that site attendants are not permitted to assist in lifting or carrying bags.
