Subject: Protest over accommodation for people seeking asylum
Details
Purpose
This Briefing Note provides an update on protests over accommodation for people seeking asylum in Perth.
Briefing Information
There was no protest outside Perth hotels used by people seeking asylum on the weekend of 17/18 January.
Police Scotland are continuing to review footage from the protest on Saturday 10 January for potential criminality.
There has been speculation online that The Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie may be used for accommodation for people seeking asylum.
The Home Office has confirmed this is not the case and it is not seeking to use any more hotels in Perth and Kinross as accommodation.
Further claims made on Facebook that residents of the Queen's Hotel and Station Hotel in Perth were moved to the former Kilgraston school building on the morning of 10 January are also false.
The next protest is expected to take place on 31 January. Perth Against Racism is planning a counter-demonstration.
