Compulsory purchase involves the taking of private land by the state in order to carry out projects for the benefit of the general public. Government departments and public bodies, including local authorities are given statutory powers which enables them to acquire land compulsorily for specific public projects.
A Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) is the legal order by which the Council acquires land compulsorily. A CPO must be confirmed by Scottish Ministers so when the Council promotes (or 'makes') a CPO, the Council also applies to the Scottish Government for confirmation.
All new CPOs promoted by the Council and all CPOs confirmed by Scottish Ministers within the last 3 months will be published on this website and also advertised in the Courier.
Currently promoted Compulsory Purchase Orders
There are currently no CPOs being promoted by the Council.
