What it means to work for us

Our Values and Behaviour Framework

Perth & Kinross Council have developed our organisational values of Ambition, Compassion, Integrity into a behavioural framework. Developed with our staff to describe the way we do things, they apply to everyone and influence the way we work with each other as well as the people and communities we serve. We believe that they should shine through everything we do and will support us in the delivery of the Working in partnership with communities.

Recruitment

Our application form and selection processes include reference to our values and behaviours and are designed to give you the opportunity to demonstrate them. This helps to ensure we select the right person for each job.

Application form

The application form has a question relating to our values and behaviours. The question is:

'Our values and behaviours influence the way we work with each other as well as the people and communities we serve. Please provide examples to describe how you have demonstrated our values and behaviours through your previous experience.'

You should describe situation(s) from the past where you have displayed our values and behaviours. This can be any situation, such as your current or previous work experience, volunteering, or your personal life.

Selection

The selection process will include an interview that explores your values and behaviours. You might find it helpful to think about situations that support the criteria required in the role which also demonstrates our values and behaviours. Your examples should be different to those you provided in your application or build on these examples.

Our Getting Ready for Interview guidance will help you to prepare and let you shine.

Fair Work First

Fair Work First is the Scottish Government's flagship policy for driving high quality/fair work and workforce diversity across the labour market in Scotland.

Perth & Kinross Council has used the Fair Work Framework since it was developed in 2016 and has worked to ensure that our employment practices meet the principles of fair work. The criteria were updated in 2023 to become Fair Work First and we have reviewed our activity in light of this to ensure we continue to meet the requirements.

In addition, from July 2023, the Scottish Government requires organisations seeking and awarding public sector grants, contracts and other funding to publicly commit to advancing the revised Fair Work criteria through the publication of a statement reflecting this on their own website.

Engagement locally with our trade unions on developing a Fair Work First Statement has been ongoing and we will continue with this dialogue to ensure that future policies and working practices reflect the requirements of Fair Work First.

This is reflected in our Fair Work First statement (PDF) [86KB] .
