Planning & Biodiversity - Local Nature Conservation Sites

Local Nature Conservation sites are sites of at least local importance for biodiversity and geodiversity. These are split into Local Biodiversity Sites and Local Geodiversity Sites.

Perth & Kinross Council is currently surveying and assessing these sites for inclusion in the next Local Development Plan. We are working with landowners, where known, to discuss the value of these sites, their management and potential adoption as formal sites.

Sites that are of value are in a good state due to the positive management of land managers, so designation is therefore unlikely to affect how the sites are currently managed. Once assessed and approved by committee the sites receive policy protection within National Planning Framework 4.  They will also be considered during development of Nature Networks, and any enhancement or restoration work on these sites will receive priority from the Council's allocation of the Nature Restoration Fund. Formal adoption of sites is anticipated to be concluded mid 2025.

The sites on the map below are proposed sites at different stages in the survey and assessment process and are subject to change.  If you would like further information or are a landowner or landmanager affected, please contact us at naturesites@pkc.gov.uk.
