Smoke detector upgrade programme underway

The Council is currently carrying out a programme of work to upgrade smoke detectors in tenants' homes.

This is in response to Scottish Government legislation making it mandatory for smoke/fire detection systems in all domestic buildings to be brought up to a new standard. This new standard means that all habitable and circulation spaces must be fitted with a smoke/heat detector.

Around 3,000 of our homes already meet the standard, but we have sent a letter to all tenants who will need the work carried out to inform you about this work. These tenants will soon be contacted by our contractor BRB Limited who will arrange to visit your home to carry out the work at a mutually convenient time.

As this is a legal obligation this work needs done. We will always try to make sure that the work is carried out at a time that suits you. Please do not ignore any communications from us or our contractor - these works are necessary to ensure that you and your family remain safe so staff will need access to your home.

The contractor will observe strict Covid-19 guidelines while they are working in your home.

If you need any further information you can read this factsheet (PDF, 410 KB). If you need to reschedule an appointment as you are self-isolating or showing symptoms of COVID-19 please contact the Housing Improvements Administration Team on 01738 476184 or 476693.
