Environmental health - Accumulations

The significant build-up of waste at both residential and commercial premises is an ever-increasing issue.

The accumulation of certain wastes can become the perfect surroundings for pests such as mice, rats, and insects. It is the responsibility of the landowner to ensure that they remove any waste that is negatively impacting public health or safety.

Actions an officer from Environmental Health may take:

  • If a complaint of waste accumulation is received, officers will visit the property/premises to investigate and assess any impact to public health. Officers will then decide what action is to be taken but will begin with contacting the occupier/landowner accumulating the waste.
  • Please note, if you are having issues with a property that is owned by Perth & Kinross Council, please contact Housing at housinginfo@pkc.gov.uk or 01738 476000, or the relevant Housing Association.
  • If there is suspicion of pest activity an officer will organise a pest control company to carry out a survey of the area to establish the existence of pests. Survey reports are sent to the officers who will then determine what action may be taken.

Please note Environmental Health do not provide their own pest control services, but instead contract pest surveys, as required. However, Environmental Health can provide advice on pests such as proofing buildings and appropriate eradication measures of rats and mice.

Visit our pest control information regarding advice on pest control.
