Information, advice and support to find and apply for community funding

Our Community Learning and Development Team will are here to support you with grant funding. They can provide guidance and support in sourcing relevant funding, how to write effective funding applications, monitor and evaluate funded projects. The team are flexible to meet the needs of your group, via in-person, online or a visit to your organisation.  

Additionally, other local organisations are available to support your wider organisational needs.

Funding Scotland

The SCVO's (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) Funding Scotland tool is an online funding database and valuable resource for charities, community groups, social enterprises and voluntary organisations of all shapes and sizes. You can also register as a member or supporter of the SCVO to gain access to further information and up-to-date funding bulletins.

Council's funding schemes

Community Environment Challenge Fund

The Community Environment Challenge Fund (CECF) can provide support and funding for community-led environmental projects.

Any of the following can be funded:

  • Improvements to sports pitches and sports ground pavilions.
  • The Contributing Third Party (CTP) payment for the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund and other landfill providers.
  • Equipment costs, tidy-up and maintenance activities and reasonable professional fees which are directly incurred in respect of the project.

The projects must be led and delivered by community groups, must make a significant difference to the local environment and be widely supported within the community. In addition, there is a requirement for a long-term maintenance commitment for any projects undertaken through the Fund.

How much would the grant be?
The minimum grant request is £2,500 up to a maximum of £10,000. 50% match funding is required. For example, an application of £2500 would have a total cost of at least £5,000. The whole project can be of any size and there is no defined maximum project cost.

Locality Participatory Budgeting Fund 2024/2025

This year, Perth & Kinross Council has agreed to focus participatory budgeting on four localities that face significant challenges and have a need for targeted community investment - Coupar Angus, Meigle & Alyth; Central and North Perth; Rattray; and South Crieff. Applications are now being accepted until 7th February 2025 at 5pm. Projects must be community-led and should focus on tackling poverty and alleviating the impact of cost of living in these areas. We expect successful applicants to demonstrate how they will target these localities but understand that some beneficiaries may come from outwith these areas. Applications are also welcome to include costs towards upskilling and resourcing volunteers to support the delivery of your project.

CLD staff will be running workshops for applicants in each locality from January. More information will be released on this in due course.

Common Good Funds

How to apply

To apply to the Common Good and Kinross Common Good funding schemes, you must complete the common good application form (Word doc, 4 MB) and the additional form for capital projects (Word doc, 118 KB).

Aberfeldy, Abernethy, Auchterarder, Alyth, Blairgowrie, Crieff, Kinross, Perth City and Pitlochry all have Common Good Funds. The Common Good Funds, with the exception of Kinross, fund projects that provide community benefits for the people (including individuals or a group of people) who live in the former burgh served by relevant Common Good Fund Committee. The Kinross Common Good Fund provides funding of any activity which is beneficial to the interests of the inhabitants of Kinross.

  • Perth Common Good Fund has specific criteria (PDF, 100 KB).
  • Applications to the Crieff Common Good Fund can apply for a maximum of £500.
  • The Aberfeldy Common Good Fund is closed for 24/25 and will reopen in the next financial year.
  • Blairgowrie Common Good Fund is in abeyance until further notice.

Rural Events Fund

Funding may be available to support the running of events outwith Perth city centre through our rural events funding. Applications are considered for new events which are intended to be annually occurring and which can demonstrate community support or need. Full criteria and details are contained within the Rural Events Fund application form (Word doc, 101 KB). Applications should be submitted at least three months before the event date.

Please note that potential applicants are advised to contact the Council's Business Development Team on 01738 477952 before completing the application form to discuss the events and the requirements.

Adult Learning in the Community Fund 2024 to 2025 (closed)

The fund is now closed, with all funding fully allocated.

Charitable and Public Trusts administered by Perth and Kinross Council

These grants are for individuals in need and applications for funding are administered by the Welfare Rights Team. The available funding is fully committed for the foreseeable future and the Fund is currently closed to applications from charitable groups. 

 

Other funding initiatives

Bertha Park Community Fund

Bertha Park Community Fund: grants to community organisations in the Bertha Park site area for projects that support community activities. See the Bertha Park Community Fund guidance flowchart (PDF, 56 KB) for guidance on the decision-making process.

Auchterarder Community Facilities Fund

The Auchterarder Community Facilities Fund (Word doc, 105 KB) aims to improve public realm and facilities as the demand on these increases through local housebuilding. The Fund will be available for use on projects being promoted by Council Services and voluntary/ community organisations which improve the amenity of the public realm or facilities within the settlement boundary of Auchterarder.

SSEN Transmission Regional Community Benefit Fund

SSEN Transmission has created the Regional Fund as part of its community benefit commitment from its investment in Transmission infrastructure across its network area in the north of Scotland. The aim of this funding is to bring positive benefits and a long-lasting legacy to communities across the north of Scotland. If your project benefits communities located within the SSEN Transmission network area, you may be eligible to apply for the Regional Fund. The SSEN network area covers the same parts of Scotland as their sister-business, SSEN Distribution. You can provide your post code on the Energy Networks Association website to check which network area you reside in. 

You don't have to be a registered charity to apply, but your organisation must have a constitution and not be set up for individual profit. Regional projects are expected to be of higher value and have a greater transformational impact which may cover several regions within the network area. In this round the fund is worth a total of £2,000,000. You can apply for funding from £40,000 up to £500,000. The fund will be looking to support projects meeting one of the following themes: People, Place and, Alleviating fuel poverty. Applications should be submitted by Friday 22nd November.

Arts and Culture

Paul Hamlyn Foundation - Arts-based Learning Fund

Grants from £30,000 to £400,000 for up to two or three years are intended to support arts-based work that tackles the disruption caused by the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic to education and the adverse impact on children and young people's mental health and wellbeing, particularly those experiencing systemic inequality and barriers to learning. Thomson Charitable Trust

The Trust supports a range of charitable projects, in particular those focusing on education, music and the arts. There is a preference to fund start up projects or improvements to projects. More information can be found on the Thomson Charitable Trust website.

Cookie Matheson Charitable Trust

This fund supports charitable causes focused on the education, practice, enjoyment and appreciation of the musical and pictorial arts in Scotland, with the Trust's main area of support based in Dundee and Tayside. National Lottery Open Fund for Organisations

Funds between £1000 - £100,000 available to continue to support organisations who seek funding to undertake creative activity such as a specific project or production, a programme of creative work, or a period of research and development. The fund can also support business change and development projects, such as those that make the organisation more financially sustainable or focus on broader organisational development. Foyle Foundation Main Grants Scheme

Grants are available to registered charities to support the performing or visual arts and for projects that facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and learning. The Foundation aims to benefit charitable causes in either the Arts or Learning:

  • Arts - This strand is designed to improve the sustainability of the arts and support groups which work to achieve this. Generally, funding is for specific projects/activities that offer long-term benefit and sustainability.
  • Learning - This strand is designed to support projects that facilitate the acquisition of knowledge such as through increased access to places of learning (e.g. museums and libraries) and which have a long-term strategic impact.

Foundation Scotland - Mary Janet King Fund

Grants up to £5,000 are available to support community groups working with young people in music in Scotland. The fund wants to support Scottish community groups working with young people in arts and music, particularly activities to encourage the uptake of music. Creative Scotland - Open Fund for Individuals

The fund is intended to support periods of research, development and/or delivery of creative activity, such as specific projects and productions for up to 24 months. It can support an individual's time where this is related to specific creative outcomes. Freelance and self-employed artists and creative practitioners living in Scotland who are at least 18 years old are eligible to apply. You can apply for between £500 and £50,000. Transport, Land and Infrastructure

The Scottish Land Fund

The Land Fund main application is currently closed but are still accepting first stage applications to help communities develop their ideas or do preliminary work around taking ownership of assets. It supports rural and urban communities to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and land assets. Stage two application will reopen this summer. Tactran Active Travel Grant

Capital funding available to create infrastructure that enables more people to cycle and walk for everyday, utility journeys. The grant is based on Sustrans Scotland's Places for Everyone criteria and applications should address the aims and objectives of the Tactran Regional Transport Strategy Refresh 2015 - 2036, with particular focus on strategy 5.3 Active Travel. Vacant Property Feasibility Grant

As part of its on-going focus to encourage vacant properties to be brought back into use for economic and socially productive purposes, the Council has set up a grant fund to assist business and property owners, and prospective owners and tenants to undertake feasibility studies to develop sustainable future uses which re-purpose vacant commercial properties. Robertson Transport Group

This grant scheme offers funding of between £5,000 and £20,000 per year, for 1-3 years, to contribute towards the costs of transport to support your work.  The fund is open to charities working in Scotland, with an annual income of £30,000 to £2 million, that support people who are experiencing (or are at high risk of experiencing) poverty and trauma. Corra Foundation - The Way Forward for Families Partnership

Match funded grants up to £250,000 over three years are available for third sector organisations working in partnership with public bodies to deliver support to children, young people and families affected by alcohol and drugs. Buttle UK - Chances for Children

Grants up to £2,400 are available to enable vulnerable children and young people in the UK to overcome financial barriers preventing them from achieving their education, training or employment goals. More information can be found on the Buttle UK website.

Dulverton Trust

Grants up to £35,000 are available to UK registered charities working to produce significant impact in the Trust's priority areas: youth opportunities, general welfare, conservation, heritage, Africa (Kenya and Uganda), and peace and humanitarian support. Cairngorms National Park Authority - Outdoor Learning Travel Grant

Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park - Educational Travel Grant

The Gannochy Trust Youth Panel Fund

The Gannochy Trust Youth Panel Fund is managed by young people from Perth and Kinross and provides grants of up to £10,000 from an annual funding pot of £100,000. The fund is open to registered charities that work with 11 to 21 year olds in Perth and Kinross and applications must deliver on at least one of the Fund themes of Youth Activity; Youth Voice; and/or Youth Health and Wellbeing. Duke of Edinburgh Award - Access Without Limits Community Funding

Duke of Edinburgh Award - Access Without Limits Community Funding

The fund offers grant funding of up to £10,250 for eligible voluntary and community organisations to set up and deliver the DofE, including the enrolment costs for marginalised young people across the UK. The organisation must have a track record of primarily working with marginalised young people. Percy Bilton Charity - Grants for Organisations

Grants up to £5,000 to assist one or more of the following groups: disadvantaged/underprivileged young people (persons under 25); people with disabilities (physical or learning disabilities or mental health problems); older people (aged over 60). Community Funding

RWE Lochelbank Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund

The developers of the Lochelbank Wind Farm, RWE Innogy UK provide this Fund for the benefit of residents in the geographic areas represented by the Community Councils of Glenfarg and Bridge of Earn. Money from the Fund will be used to support community projects and activities in these areas. The Fund will provide grants to support charitable activities that: Enhance quality of life for local residents; Contribute to vibrant, healthy, successful and sustainable communities; Promote community spirit and encourage community activity. Matthew Good Foundation - Grants for Good Fund

 

Grants are available for local community groups, charities, voluntary groups, and social enterprises in the UK for projects that have a positive impact on communities, people, or the environment. Every three months, the Grants for Good Fund will divide £15,000 between five shortlisted projects that have a positive impact on communities, people, or the environment. Social Investment Scotland All Purpose Loan Fund

Loan support to not-for-profit social economy organisations throughout Scotland that are unable to raise funding, either in total or in part, from normal commercial sources such as banks; have a clear social purpose that will make a real difference to the communities in which they operate; and can demonstrate long-lasting social impacts. SIS will normally lend amounts starting from £10,000 up to £2 million. More information can be found on the Social Investment Scotland website.

Robertson Trust

Grants up to £750,000 are available to support charitable projects that address the Trust's three funding strands:

  • Financial wellbeing - tackling the financial and material effects of poverty on people and communities.
  • Emotional wellbeing and relationships - ensuring people have emotional wellbeing, and confidence and strength in their relationships with others.
  • Education and work pathways - equipping people for the future by supporting learning and skills.

The Trust has four main grants available to registered charities - Small Grants - funding of between £2,000 and £15,000; Large Grants - funding of between £15,000 and £50,000; and Community Vehicle Grants - funding of £1,000 to £10,000 towards the costs or upgrade of a vehicle.

They also have Wee Grants for capital and revenue funding of £300 to £2,000, available to registered charities and constituted community groups with an annual income of less than £25,000. More information on the above funds can be found on the Robertson Trust website.

Scotmid Co-op Community Grants

Grants of up to £500 are available to local voluntary and community groups and charities for projects that support local communities served by Scotmid stores. More information can be found on the Scotmid grants webpage.

Tesco Stronger Starts

A grant of up to £1500 is available for charities and community organisations supporting local good causes. Groups with a focus on providing food to school pupils such as fruit for breakfast clubs and for equipment for outdoor and indoor activities are considered eligible. Every three months, three local good causes are selected to be in the blue token customer vote in Tesco stores throughout the UK. More information can be found on the Tesco Stronger Starts webpage.

Auchterarder and District Community Trust

Funds available for charities and community organisations within the Auchterarder & District Area (Auchterarder, Aberuthven and Glendevon) for projects that provide a direct benefit to the local area. More information can be found on the Auchterarder & District Community Trust website.

Kingdom Housing Association - Community Initiatives Fund

Foundation Scotland - Kinross-shire Fund

The Kinross-shire Fund aims to support activities that will develop the vibrant life of the Kinross-shire community and ensure the area is an attractive place to live, work, and visit. Applications must contribute to at least one of the following themes: Community events; Community information; Community transport; Community welfare or healthcare support; Physical amenities; Recreational facilities; Support for care of the elderly or for existing voluntary organisations. Moto Foundation - Community Partners

The Moto Foundation makes a positive difference to the communities around Moto's locations. Each location can adopt a local Community Partner, supporting them in realising their objectives. Charities or good causes must be within a 25 mile radius of a Moto site (Kinross); have opportunities for Moto colleagues to be involved with your group and are happy to support the Moto site with their fundraising events. SSE Drumderg Wind Farm Community Fund

This Fund provides funding to community and charitable projects in the community council areas of Mount Blair (most of Strathardle and Glenshee) and Alyth. The fund generally supports projects which promote community spirit and bring people together; enhance quality of life and promote people's well-being; and/or foster vibrant, sustainable communities. SSE Griffin and Calliachar Wind Farm Community Fund

This Fund provides funding to community and charitable projects in the community council areas of Aberfeldy; Dull and Weem; Dunkeld and Birnam; Kenmore and District; and Mid Atholl, Strathtay and Grandtully. The fund generally supports projects which enhance the quality of life for local residents; contribute to vibrant, healthy, successful and sustainable communities; promote community spirit and encourage community activity. Business and Technology

Co-operative and Community Finance

Financial aid is available for the support of the development of cooperatives or employee-owned businesses and social enterprises in the UK for general business needs, including loans on property, business purchase, capital equipment and working capital. Social Entrepreneurs Fund - Start It

Up to £10,000 of seed funding grants and support are available to inspirational leaders and early-stage social enterprises in the UK to establish their own non-profit ventures with the potential to provide solutions to intractable social problems faced by disadvantaged and socially marginalised young people. Shackleton Foundation Leadership Award

Up to £5,000 of start-up funding for individuals with a business idea that addresses a social, environmental, and/or community issue. You can apply for Start it if you have an idea for a social enterprise but need some funding to get it up and running. The idea should be new, not a continuation of something already existing. Weir Charitable Trust

Grants are available to charities registered in the UK that are running sports projects which provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and develop personal and life skills. Peter Harrison Foundation - Active Lives

Grants of up to £30,000 depending on turnover are available to groups for physical activity initiatives that cover a range of priorities including focuses of deprived areas, people with disabilities or life disadvantages and skills development. Boost Charitable Trust

Small grants are available to charities and non-profit making organisations with a focus on helping disabled and disadvantaged individuals in the UK to participate in sport. More information can be found on the Boost Charitable Trust website.

Perth and Kinross Sports Council

A range of grants to promote interest and participation in sport throughout Perth and Kinross are available including start up grants, development grants, equipment grants, and personal development grants.

Funding is available for:

  • New club start up costs
  • Equipment
  • Running/hosting an event

SportScotland - Coach Education Subsidy Fund

The funding is provided by sportscotland to assist coaches to reduce the cost of their learning and development as this can often be seen as a barrier to participation and development. Please visit the Coach Education Subsidy Fund webpage for further information.

Garfield Weston Foundation

Grants up to £100,000 are available to charitable organisations in the UK for a wide range of projects in the areas of welfare, youth, community, arts, faith, environment, education, health, and museums and heritage. For more information, visit the Garfield Weston Foundation website.

Jimmie Cairncross Charitable Trust

Perth and Kinross Community Heritage Grants

Launched in May 2021, the Community Heritage Grant Fund has been established to support community projects that conserve or enhance the historic environment within Perth and Kinross. Recognising how difficult it can be for community groups to access funding for heritage projects, Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust have designated £65,000 to support local heritage initiatives, which they hope will support at least 15 eligible projects over the next two years. The Trust will consider financial support for projects which fall into either of the following categories: Conservation of historic buildings or monuments in Perth and Kinross that have established and generally unhindered public access; Community based recording, research and interpretation of the historic environment in Perth and Kinross. The Gannochy Trust Grant Strategy 2022 to 2027

The Gannochy Trust's main grant programme which distributes funding of circa £4m per annum for project, core and capital charitable work within Perth and Kinross. Aims for the funding are to improve the quality of life; improve the quality and availability of the built and natural environment; and to develop and inspire children and young people aged between 0 and 21. Funding of circa £1m is also available to charities in the rest of Scotland for projects which aim to develop and inspire young people between the ages of 11 and 21.  Visit the Gannochy Trust website for more information and deadline dates.
