Recycling Centre Permits

A Recycling Centre Permit is required for anyone using a commercial-type vehicle to access our recycling centres or the Friarton Weighbridge.

This helps us manage waste safely, reduce misuse of sites and clearly distinguish between household and commercial waste. Permits apply to both businesses and householders, depending on how the site is being used, and different permit types are available to reflect this.

Important information: Site Attendants may refuse entry if permit conditions are not met or if waste appears to be commercial. If you are disposing of business waste, you must use a Commercial Permit. Householders using a commercial-type vehicle must obtain a Domestic Exemption Permit, otherwise disposal of your waste will be refused.

Do I need a Recycling Centre Permit?

Businesses and landlords

You must apply for a Commercial Permit if you are business or landlord, and you currently or intend to:

  • recycle materials at a recycling centre
  • dispose of, or recycle, chargeable materials at recycling centres or the Friarton weighbridge

This includes businesses disposing of recyclables such as paper, cardboard, cans, plastics and scrap metal, as well as those using chargeable waste services.

Householders using a commercial-type vehicle

If you are a householder using a commercial-type vehicle to take your own household waste to a recycling centre, you will need a Domestic Exemption Permit. Commercial-type vehicles include vans of any size, pick-ups, minibuses (7 to 11 seats), camper vans, horse boxes, large trailers and liveried vehicles, including taxis.
