VisionPK

Description

VisionPK is the local charity in Perth and Kinross supporting people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. If you or someone you know has a visual impairment or hearing loss, we can help you in different ways including:

  • information and advice about specific hearing and sight conditions
  • identifying the right equipment to help you live independently at home, for example for cooking, looking after your home and staying safe
  • if you are deaf or hard of hearing, there are a range of products which can help you get the most from your hearing aid, whilst others can help in situations where a hearing aid is less effective
  • help with mobility training and getting out and about in your neighbourhood
  • advice and support on how technology can help you
  • social groups and peer support
  • provision of hearing aid batteries

RNIB Eye Clinic Support Services

DescriptionRNIB Eye Clinic Support Service provides emotional and practical support for people with a sight condition, their family, friends and carers. If you or someone who know has a sight condition and would like to find out more about the help available, please contact our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) using the contact details below, or in person at Ophthalmology Outpatients, Ninewells Hospital or Outpatients Clinic, Perth Royal Infirmary.

Action on Hearing Loss: Hear to Help Service

Description

The Hear to Help service is for NHS hearing aid wearers and includes:

  • tubing, minor repairs, ear mould cleaning and battery replacement
  • basic training for hearing aid users on maintenance and usage of their hearing aid
  • providing advice and support to enable people to make the most of their hearing aid
  • providing information on other equipment and services.

Deaf Hub: Deaf Links

Description

Deaf Links provides a wide range of activities and learning opportunities for deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and deafblind people including an advocacy project for people who have a sensory loss.

They can arrange to visit you at home if you find it difficult to get to Tayside Deaf Hub.

Deaf Action lip-reading courses

Description

Deaf Action's free online lip-reading courses are tailored for adults aged 16 years and over with any degree of hearing loss and who use spoken English to communicate with other people. Classes are taught by experienced lip-reading tutors with the course covering:

  • different shapes that sounds make on the lips
  • which sounds look the same on the lips and how to use context and other clues to tell the difference
  • communication tactics that can support lip-reading and encourage you to manage hearing loss more effectively
  • how to discuss problems and solutions to everyday situations such as having a meal in a restaurant or going to the doctor
