At the Meeting of the Perth Common Good Fund Committee of 17 December 2014, Members approved a 50% grant to Perth Sailing Club (PSC) of £6,748 towards the cost of purchasing a rigid inflatable rescue boat. Following the offer of grant from the Committee, PSC had the opportunity to run a thorough trial of a relatively new type of safety boat that is now widely used by the rescue services and for water-sports activities. The Club consulted with the RNLI and the RYA (Royal Yacht Association) who confirmed that this type of boat would be highly suitable for providing safety cover for dinghy sailing and for operating in a river environment such as the Tay.

With the introduction of the new lower cost roto-molded boats, the Club are in a position to purchase a package of two safety boats for the same money, by combining existing PSC funds with Committee grant of £6,748. They judged that this approach would better meet the needs of the sailing club, provide much better value for money, and furthermore, a better safety and rescue boat capability for the wider P&K community when necessary. Therefore, although there was a change in the safety boat model and number of boats, the purchase is consistent with the aims and benefits of the original grant application. The new boats cost £6,910.59 each.

The Committee is asked to uphold the original grant albeit PSC have deviated from the original specification.
