About this briefing note

Report by: Thomas Glen, Chief Executive

Date: 20 May 2022

Subject: Lord Provost Status

Responsible Officer: Michelle Glencorse, PA to Provost, Corporate and Democratic Support

Details

Purpose

To update Elected Members on the application made by Council for Lord Provost status as part of a civic honours competition organised to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Briefing information

The application for Lord Provost status was made following a motion submitted at a meeting of Perth & Kinross Council on 15 November 2021.

Unfortunately, we have been advised today that the Council's application for the reintroduction of the title of Lord Provost in the Platinum Jubilee civic honours competition has been unsuccessful.

Southampton was the successful applicant. Its civic leader will now have the title Lord Mayor.

Separately and for members' information, Dunfermline has been awarded City Status as part of the Jubilee Celebrations and becomes Scotland's eighth city. City status has been awarded to eight towns across the UK, Isle of Man and the Falklands.
