Purpose
This Briefing Note provides Elected Members with a further update on preparations for Storm Floris.
Briefing Information
The Met Office's Amber warning for high winds remains in place from 10am to 10pm today.
An IMT took place on Monday morning regarding preparations for the storm.
Water flow in the River Tay at Perth remains around the 50 cumec mark, much lower than the 800 cumec level that necessitates flood gate closures.
However, water levels will continue to be monitored this week in case flood gates need to be closed.
The strongest winds are expected to hit Perth and Kinross between 12 noon and 3pm today. All Council services are operating as normal but staff have been advised to work from home today if possible.
Those who have travelled to work have been advised to take extra caution and to avoid travelling during the peak of the storm, if possible.
Police Scotland advice remains not to undertake any unnecessary journeys and to drive with caution.
The Community Safety and Enforcement team is on standby to assist as necessary and has helped distribute sandbags to areas concerned about possible flooding caused by heavy rain.
Scaffolding on the Pomarium multi-storey flats has been checked to ensure it is secure. Road signs in Perth have also been checked by Tayside Contracts staff to ensure they are properly weighted down.
Bin collections have continued as normal today but staff are carrying out risk assessments as they work.
Train services north of Perth are stopping after midday because the weather. Other public transport operators have been advised of the situation and are continuing to monitor the storm as it develops. The Glenfarg Community Transport Group is withdrawing its services this afternoon.
Destiny Bridge has been closed to high-sided vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
We are continuing to provide updates on social media for residents as required.
The Local Resilience Partnership will meet this afternoon and another IMT is scheduled for 3pm.
