Subject: Blairgowrie Recreation Centre closure

Details

Purpose

This Briefing Note provides an update on Blairgowrie Recreation Centre.

Briefing Information

The swimming pool at Blairgowrie Recreation Centre is closed today (Friday 12 September 2025) because of an issue with water in the building.

Blairgowrie High School pupils are still using the dry side of the centre for PE with school toilets being used instead of those in the new centre.

The pool in the old Blairgowrie Recreation Centre is being maintained and Live Active Leisure has indicated they are ready to re-open the building if required with 24 hours notice.

Property Services were alerted to the problem on Thursday night and upon inspection found the water tanks were nearly empty. The systems are being recharged and were only half-full by 6.30 this morning, which meant the centre could not fully re-open.

There are no issues with water supply to the old Recreation Centre and Scottish Water is unaware of any supply problems in the area.

At this moment it is anticipated that the centre will remain closed for today but will fully reopen tomorrow morning after normal daily checks.

Property Services are instructing an independent review of the setup of the plant to confirm the design, installation and plant operating arrangements are fit for purpose.
