Purpose

This Briefing Note provides Councillors with an update on Perth High School, which has been closed for two days because of issues with the electricity supply.

Briefing Information

Unfortunately, Perth High School had to shut on Monday 22 September and Tuesday 23 September because of an electrical fault.

Issues with mains electrical power failure were first experienced at the school at 8.10am on Monday.

Engineers from technical services company FES Group and SSEN attended to determine the potential cause and resolve the issue.

The cause was thought to have been in relation to settings on the main circuit breakers. This theory was tested on Monday night and power was restored at 4pm and rechecked to confirm there were no further concerns.

Unfortunately, first thing on Tuesday morning, at 6.50am, the power failed again. The cause of this fault has not yet been identified.

Engineers from SSEN and FES are currently working to determine the cause and resolve the issue.

Remote learning has been provided during the closure. Currently planning is underway to extend and enhance the remote learning offer tomorrow (24 September)as a contingency until we gain understanding and rectify the cause of the issue.
