Details
Purpose
This briefing provides information about a pilot project to encourage good behaviour on school bus services.
Briefing Information
A working group has been established with internal and external partners to encourage positive behaviour on our school buses. Overall, behaviour on our school transport is good, but some instances of anti-social behaviour have been reported to us.
The partners involved are Perth and Kinross Council officers, Stagecoach South Scotland, Fire and Rescue Service and Community Police.
Perth High School has agreed to be the pilot school for this work. The school has already formed a pupil focus group to gather and discuss details of any concerns pupils have about their bus journey to and from school, as well as providing any examples of unsafe or poor behaviour experienced on the school bus.
Perth High will develop a communication strategy with the whole school community to inform all parents about the pilot and encourage them to support their children to display good and safe behaviours while travelling on the school bus, including wearing their seatbelt.
The school is exploring appointing senior pupils as school bus ambassadors.
Pupils will also produce an information video, and Stagecoach has agreed to provide a double decker bus for this.
The school is looking at introducing a reporting system for any issues, using a QR code.
We would intend the film to be shared on social media platforms and presented in the school.
Fire and Rescue Services, Stagecoach and Council Officers have agreed to also participate in these presentations in school to share experiences from their perspective and explain why good behaviour and seatbelt wearing is crucial for safe travel.
We will keep you updated.
