Purpose
This Briefing Note provides an update on plans to remove RAAC from Bell's Sports Centre and the provision of toilet facilities while this work is underway.
Briefing Information
In June 2025, the Council approved a project to remove Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) within Bell's Sports Centre, and associated condition surveys.
These surveys will help us understand the building's current condition and plan for its future refurbishment. It is planned that the survey works will begin on site towards the end of 2025, and together with the removal of the RAAC from the building, are expected to take around six to eight months to complete.
The works mark the first phase of a much larger project considering the future of the building, with further engagement with key stakeholders, and the wider local community, to follow.
A secure construction site will be set up at Bell's Sports Centre, with fencing and hoarding in place for public safety and clear signage for public access routes around the site. The inside of Bell's Sports Centre remains closed.
To help visitors to the North Inch and nearby surrounding areas during the works, temporary public toilets will be installed in the park outside the current entrance of Bell's Sports Centre.
The second phase of works will involve an options appraisal report from surveys/heritage assessments and engagement with stakeholders/wider public on proposals for the centre's future.
